Student Expectations

South Delta Kyokushin is operated on a volunteer basis. The instructors are not paid for their time instructing or doing administrative tasks.  As such we have expectations that our students will work with us to minimize the amount of time spent on administrative work. We volunteer our time to teach karate,  prefer not to spend time pursuing people for dues and responses.

These expectations are for the students and extend to the parents / guardians of under age students.

There are also expectations of how students conduct themselves inside and outside of the dojo.  These expectations are laid out in the student handbook.

“ The Martial Way begins and ends with courtesy.  Therefore, be properly and genuinely courteous at all times.”  Mas Oyama  (one of the 11 mottoes)

These expectations are no more than asking all students to have courtesy and respect for the instructors and one another.

Communication

We use multiple forms of communication to make students aware of upcoming events

  • Announcements in class
  • Website postings
  • Email
  • Text Message

We ask that you promptly act on any call to action in these communications. For example when we announce that testing registration is open,  register immediately, do not wait until the last minute ( or after )

Students ( children ) should be communicating the in class announcements with their parents. We understand that this is easier said than done, that is why we have also implemented the other 3 routes so that parents will receive the messages. Please make sure the emails are not being blocked.

Monthly Dues

South Delta Kyokushin has setup a system with paypal to allow for subscription payments,  This setup will pay your dues automatically monthly.  Please set up the subscription as close to the beginning of a month as possible. This makes the tracking much easier.  You can attach the Paypal to a credit card or a bank account.

Dues can be paid on the monthly subscription or as a one time full season payment.

Please use paypal. It makes the administration much easier fo us. If you have a valid reason and MUST use cash, you must have it in an envelope with the following written on the outside

  • Your name
  • Student name
  • Date
  • Amount
  • What it is for.

Cash dues must be paid on the first class of each month.

Other Payments

South Delta Kyokushin has setup a paypal.me site.  This is accessible by snapping the QR code on your phone (see an administration member)  or on our website as a link to “other payments”  on the dues and fees page. Please use this link to pay via paypal for any other payments such as merchandise or gear.  Note in the payment what it is for.

If you have a valid reason and MUST use cash, you must have it in an envelope with the following written on the outside

  • Your name
  • Student name
  • Date
  • Amount
  • What it is for.

Be On Time

We expect students to be at the dojo and ready to begin class at the time stated.  Students should be partially stretched out and warmed up BEFORE class starts.  This will allow us to focus on karate with less time allocated to warming up and stretching in class.

Entering the dojo exactly on time that class is to start is disrespectful to the other students that are ready and waiting as well as to the instructors. Please do not be the cause of a delay in starting the class.  It is also distracting to other student when someone shows up late for class.

“If you’re not 10 minutes early,  you are late”  a good mantra for everything in life.

Before and After Class

Family Class

Students are expected to warm up and stretch quietly before class.  You are encouraged to ask the instructors questions during this time, practice your kata or other techniques. Be ready to line up quickly when called to do so.

Students of the family class are expected to pack up their belongings and exit the dojo as quickly and quietly as possible. The adult class starts immediately after the family class ends so any delays have a direct impact on the students of the adults class.  Any dressing or undressing required please move out to the front entrance way,  so it does not delay the adults class.  Once in the front entrance way please also keep in mind the noise level,  as to not be a distraction or interruption to the adult class

Adult Class

Adult class students are to enter the dojo quietly while the family class is in session.  They are to warm up with a minimum of noise and avoid distraction of the family class.  Be ready to line up quickly when called to do so.

After class adult students are expected to help clean up and put away any gear used during the class.

Other Notes

We strongly encourage all students to research the sempai / kohai relationship
